Welcome to Kern County Unknown where the strange, the unsettling, and the unexplained of Kern County finally get their spotlight.

We’re a locally-rooted true crime and paranormal series created by longtime friends Adam Black and Logan Abbott. What started as late-night conversations about Bakersfield’s creepiest legends and long-forgotten cases quickly turned into a mission: to uncover the chilling stories, unsolved mysteries, and haunted locations hiding right here in our own backyard.

In the summer of 2022, we launched our first crowdfunding effort with a Kickstarter campaign titled “Kern County Has a Dark Side… We’re Just Exposing It.” The response blew us away — over $3,000 in pledges rolled in from local residents, true crime fans, and believers in what we were building. Unfortunately, since Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing platform, we didn’t hit our $6,000 goal and walked away with nothing but determination.

Around this time, we connected with Robert Petersen, host of The Notorious Bakersfield Podcast. Robert became one of our earliest supporters, offering advice, guidance, and encouragement when we needed it most. His belief in our project helped push us forward, and he even lent his voice to narrate our debut episode — an honor that helped shape the eerie, hometown-centered vibe that would become our signature.

Refusing to let the campaign’s outcome stop us, we decided to fund the project ourselves. In September 2023, we premiered our first episode at The Empty Space Theater in Bakersfield, packing the house with curious locals and true crime enthusiasts eager for something new. That night confirmed what we already knew, Kern County was ready for this.

Today, Kern County Unknown continues to dive deep into unsolved mysteries, eerie folklore, and paranormal hotspots across the county. From notorious cold cases to ghost hunts in historic buildings, we’re shining a light on the side of Kern County most people are too afraid to talk about.
